Canyon Bakehouse (Product Review and Giveaway)

I finally decided to do it….no not the dishes going on a Gluten free diet silly. I’ve been wanting to do this for awhile but found that very little products and lack of information made it seem impossible. Then before I knew it more and more gluten free foods were hitting the shelves and I took it as a sign to really commit. I can’t say I have give up gluten completely, but I have a strong effort to stay focus and it actually is exciting when I see a new product in the grocery store I haven’t tried yet. Canyon Bakehouse is one of those and with their strong mission statement, wholesome ingredients, and good variety they are easily going to find a spot on my shopping list.

Canyon Bakehouse mission statement is simple. They want you to enjoy bread again! More and more people are being diagnosed with Celiac Disease. The Mayo Clinic defines Celiac disease as an “immune reaction to eating gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye.” Frustrated by gluten-free breads that lacked in taste and nutritional value, Christi, her husband, Josh, and their friend and Master Baker, Ed Miknevicius, set out to bake breads that were free from gluten and other allergens, but held the taste, texture and feeling of “real” bread.

Canyon Bakehouse breads are full of flavor, each one soft but with a good chew that you wouldn’t find in any white or wheat bread at the bakery. Canyon uses 100% whole grains, brown rice flour, and organic Agave syrup. That means no bleached flour, high fructose corn syrups, or artificial flavoring. Every bite you take is due to the wholesome ingredients and baking process at the family bakehouse in the Rocky Mountains

Canyon Bakehouse offers 8 different bread related products. They were nice enough to send me four to try.

The 100% whole wheat hamburger buns are great for any hamburger, pulled pork, or BBQ chicken sandwich that you might on your meal plan. The whole wheat buns have 4 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein per bun. The only thing to keep in mind is each pack comes in 4 where usually we do find them in packs of 6-8.

The Rosemary & Thyme Focaccia was a hit with spaghetti and meatball, the soft bread mopped up the marinara nicely and the fragrance rosemary and thyme married nicely with the Italian dish. Each serving is loaded with 3 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber.

The 7-grain sandwich bread is a great substitute to any bread on the market today. Each slice is loaded with 2 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber. The only thing I seemed to notice was that each slice was slightly smaller that your traditional sandwich bread. It was also slightly sweet, I’m guessing it was from the Agave syrup but maybe it was just me.

The Cinnamon Raisin Bread was by far my favorite, a sweet bread swirled with cinnamon and full of raisins. I found my favorite way to eat this was to toast it slightly and smoother it with peanut butter and bananas. Each slice is loaded with 2 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber.
